Start a loyalty programme without replacing your POS

Use a phone or tablet for loyalty, prepare staff access and decide when connecting your point-of-sale system is worth investigating.

Do you need a POS integration to start?

Not for a programme where staff validate visits manually. Goodly can be used to stamp cards from a phone or tablet while your existing till handles payments. This lets a shop test digital loyalty before planning a technical integration.

Manual validation is not automatic synchronisation. Without a connected till, a sale does not credit a loyalty card by itself; a team member must record the loyalty action. Plan for an internet connection when using the service.

Test the journey during a real service

  1. The customer scans the business QR code and adds the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
  2. At the point specified in your rules, they present their QR or customer code.
  3. A staff member finds the correct card and validates the authorised stamps or points.
  4. When a reward is claimed, staff also record its use to avoid giving it twice.

Include ordinary problems in your trial: a dim phone screen, a customer who cannot find their card, a cancelled order and a change of staff. Measure the actual time at the counter. A quiet demonstration does not always represent a busy service.

Give employees the access they need

Cashier mode separates counter work from programme management. Decide who can stamp, who can correct errors and who can change rewards. Keep management access for people who need it.

Prepare a short reference sheet covering eligible purchases, stamp quantities, card checks, reward redemption and who to contact after a mistake. Rehearse a transaction with each new employee.

When is a till connection useful?

Your processWhat to consider
One stamp after an eligible purchaseManual validation with a simple counter rule.
Points based on the amount paidChecked manual entry or a compatible integration to reduce re-entry.
Rules based on individual productsVerify which item data your till can send.
High volume across several tillsTest synchronisation, cancellations and duplicate events before launch.

Compatibility depends on the till supplier, software version, permissions and expected behaviour. Verify the specific connection before assuming it is available. Having an API does not mean every till connects immediately.

What happens during an internet outage?

Prepare a catch-up process: keep purchase evidence and authorise the credit once the connection returns. Prevent the same purchase from being credited twice. Do not promise offline stamping without verification. Being able to see a saved Wallet card does not prove its balance can be updated without a network connection.
